Present Simple vs Present Continuous Common Mistakes

An error correction worksheet on Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses.

What are the common mistakes on Present Simple and Present Continuous tenses?

There may occur many different mistakes in the use of Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses. However, my students tend to make similar mistakes in my classes. The most typical mistake is leaving out the "to be" in negatives and questions.

The overuse of "to be" is one of the most common mistakes in English

Here are some typical mistakes:

  • Forgetting "to be"
  • Confusing present simple and present continuous tenses with different time expressions
  • The overuse of "to be" when forming present simple tenses
  • Punctuation mistakes
