Comparing Things

Comparatives

We use comparatives to compare things. We can express a lower or higher quality in things or people. We  can use comparatives with adjectives, adverbs and also nouns.

For example

Mandy is taller than Emy.

This swimming pool isn't larger than our pool.

Today, there are more people in our living room than there are in a stadium!

Megan eats more slowly than I do.

Work harder than you can!

tipsBe careful! When you compare things, the first thing in the sentence is evaluated.

For example:

"The moon is smaller than The earth." (We understand that when they are compared the moon is small and the earth is big in comparison.)

Superlatives

We use superlative adjectives to say the highest or the lowest quality of things in a group. In other words, you can talk about what's in the top or bottom in terms of qualities.

For example

Tom is the tallest boy in the class.

Maggie is the shortest girl in the class.

Michael Jackson is the best dancer of all times.

My brother is the worst dancer of all times.
