Forms of Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses

How do we form Present Simple tense?

There are mainly two groups of forms in Present Simple.

I/You/We/They

He/She/It

  • I play football.
  • You swim very well.
  • We have a barbecue every weekend.
  • They listen to rock music.
  • My cousin and her friends meet once a week.
  • He plays rugby at the weekends.
  • She sleeps only five hours a day.
  • It likes its kennel a lot.

 

How do we form Present Continuous?

The forms of Present Continuous change according to personal pronouns.

For example...

I am eating donuts at the moment.

You are eating donuts at the moment.

He/She/It is eating donuts at the moment.

We are eating donuts at the moment.

They are eating donuts at the moment. 

Forms of Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses are very close. Do not forget that you always need a helping verb (am, is or are) in all sentences of present continuous tense!

For example...

  • Tom going to school on weekdays.  (Tom is going to ...)
